A law is created because there is a situation that has been perceived as a problem or issue. The law is meant to set up a statute that will control or fix this situation or problem. This is generally a good thing. It protects U.S. citizens from things that might cause them harm. Some people might believe that this law is bad because it takes away certain freedoms. One of the best examples of this is the issue of gun control. Some people do not want most Americans to have guns. Others believe that it is their certain inalienable right. Some others see laws as giving the government too much power of over the citizens. Those are some of the pros and cons of laws being created.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"19368893","dateCreated":"1264612205","smartDate":"Jan 27, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"hannahradford","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/hannahradford","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251338589\/hannahradford-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/epiphanybritlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/19368893"},"dateDigested":1532389448,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"dangers of an all powerful gov't","description":"A government with too much power is dangerous because they then begin to inhibit and take too much control of the citizens' rights. A danger of an all powerful government would be the possibility that the leaders of the government would pass laws that apply to them and make their lives better, without the consent of the people. Genetic engineering: the deliberate alteration of genetic material by intervention in genetic processes. By its very definition the process puts the power of God into the hands of humans. However, is this such a bad thing? If we can engineer genetics, hereditary faults could potentially be eliminated. The possibilities are endless, even when only considering the medical advances. How much power is too much power? Could the benefits genetic engineering outweigh any risks? Or will humanity follow the path of Icarus and fly so high that our false wings are melted by the sun, resulting in our downfall? What do you think?
