\n
\n1. When Christopher goes into the garden and contemplates the importance of description in the book he is writing, his teacher tells him "the idea of a book was to describe things using words so that people could read them and make a picture in their own head" (p. 67). How does his description of the garden relate to the quote "The world is full of obvious things which nobody by chance ever observes" (p. 73)? Use personal experiences to help your explanation.
\n
\n2. Christopher doesn't believe in God, souls, heaven, or other supernatural things. What approach might you use to argue to Christopher that the spiritual world can be as real as the material world?
\n
\n3. Christopher experiences the world quantitatively and logically. How does Christopher keep his world "safe?" How does Christopher cross boundaries that are "unsafe?"
\n
\n4. How much empathy does the reader come to feel for Christopher? Why? What actions\/expressions\/logic help readers to understand and\/or like Christopher? Do some readers come to dislike Christopher? Why? Some critics have said that "Christopher Boone is an unsolved mystery." Do you agree? Explain.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[],"more":0}]},{"id":"22767769","dateCreated":"1271206582","smartDate":"Apr 13, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"ndalhouse","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/ndalhouse","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251156790\/ndalhouse-lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/epiphanybritlit.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/22767769"},"dateDigested":1532389442,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Classmate Quirks...","description":"I figured since we all know each other pretty well, it might be easier to figure quirks out for other people.

I would ask someone for their opinion on something and I would go against what they said. For example, if I asked someone what color shirt I should get blue or pink and they said blue, I would probably end up getting the pink one. I always ask someone for their opinions because I find it hard to make a decision for myself. With deciding to go to UNCW in January or UNCC in September, I asked like 9 people before making my decision.
\n\u2022 I would say one of my obsessions would be buying lip glosses. Whenever I go to a store one thing I have to buy is a new lip gloss and or Chap Stick .I don\u2019t know why I am always buying them, but it seems as if I always have a new one. Also, I have an obsession with correcting people on how they say and spell my name. I mean there is always someone who will say, or spell my name like the boys name Aaron. I don't get why it is so hard to understand my name is Erin. It bugs me when they get it wrong.","dateCreated":"1271122214","smartDate":"Apr 12, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"erinhannan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/erinhannan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1255388971\/erinhannan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"22773811","body":"I am eccentric about my drum playing and kit. One of them is my obsession with organization. I like right angles and straight lines. When putting something on say, a table, I will place it at a right angle as well as try and make it equidistant from two sides of the table. I also tend to be obsessed with symmetry when it comes to object placement.
\n
\nAnother of my idiosyncrasies, one that is rather irritating at times, is my absolute dislike of having people behind my back. I will go out of my way to stand or sit in the corner or sides of a room, so that I can keep my back to a wall. This way I can see everyone. I also, when walking in a group, tend to keep at the back of the 'pack.' I'm not sure why I am like this, but it is a compulsion that is extraordinarily difficult to overcome.","dateCreated":"1271304720","smartDate":"Apr 14, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"claudiaclippinger","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/claudiaclippinger","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251163274\/claudiaclippinger-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"23109735","body":"Some of my oddities include counting out the number of letters in a phrase or sentence that I have heard or said. I think the plot has a unique aspect to it. It may seem odd as he changes the subject all the time, but I think that gives a sense of uniquness to it. I think Christopher is a good person. I think as of now he wanted to be a different person then who is told to be. For example, he wants to be able to talk to people and meet new friends. In the book he said how his father doesn't let him talk to strangers. It seems like he does because he got into a good converstion with Mrs. Alexander, but then he recalled what his father said. He is unique. I like the fact that he tells you what makes his day good and how he knows all the capitals and counties. I think that this book is going to be really good based on how the Christophers character is developed and how the plot begin.","dateCreated":"1271203205","smartDate":"Apr 13, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"erinhannan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/erinhannan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1255388971\/erinhannan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"22768299","body":"This book is very unique, just like Erin said. I think the author does a very good job of conveying what an autistic person goes through in life and how he handles different situations. For example, the author depicts Christopher's "syndrome" by showing that he really likes prime numbers, knows all the capitals and countries, and can pick up on physical characteristics that many people wouldn't usually. I like how he picks up on things that many people don't notice because it gives me a better sense of how they view the world.","dateCreated":"1271207283","smartDate":"Apr 13, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"ndalhouse","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/ndalhouse","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251156790\/ndalhouse-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"22773925","body":"This book is very different compared to all of the other books that I have read. I am slightly enthralled with how the main character looks at life. His perspective on everyday occurrences that most people look over as habitual, he takes time to analyze and notice. I also see the character as a highly smart person even though he has down syndrome. There are not many people that know the facts that he does. He may not be able to theorize, but he has a striking level of intelligence in other manners. Overall I liked this book so much that I bought it versus borrowing someone else's and trying to hide the fact that I did not own it from Mrs Fitz.","dateCreated":"1271215010","smartDate":"Apr 13, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"derekrichey","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/derekrichey","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251158057\/derekrichey-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"22784213","body":"@Derek: Christopher doesn't have down syndrome. Its cool how he intellectually views everything such a prime numbers, how he notices people in ways that ordinary society doesnt and by how he seems to only speak factual information. The book really makes you look at individuals with disorders such as Christopher in a different way.... the kids smarter that most in his thinking","dateCreated":"1271292833","smartDate":"Apr 14, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"jglennthomas","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/jglennthomas","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"22831033","body":"I am impressed by what I have read of the book so far. The author chose to write from an extraordinarily difficult point of view - that of a teenager with autism. Yet he writes that point of view masterfully, with an ease that allows the reader to slip into the mindset of a person normally difficult to understand. In truth, I am really focusing on the character development as I read more than I am the plot. I find Christopher to be fascinating. I am interested in the way he seems to be constantly calculating in his mind. The levels of calculation his is able to achieve are far beyond that of normal people. Because of this, I take great amusement in reading of his though processes.","dateCreated":"1271304066","smartDate":"Apr 14, 2010","userCreated":{"username":"claudiaclippinger","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/claudiaclippinger","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1251163274\/claudiaclippinger-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"23109579","body":"Okay well I know I'm late, but thinking back to when we started the novel, I can remember really liking it. It was entertaining and funny, but you also had to think at times to understand what Christopher was talking about.
