This can be applied to how MacBeth abuses his power and murders Duncan to gain more power. He then murders Banquo and MacDuff's family to cover up killing Duncan.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

This can be applied to the anger Lady MacBeth expresses to convince MacBeth to kill Duncan so they can have power. Her pride and the worry that someone would have found out got them into even more trouble. Also because of her pride, they both had to hide every emotion they had and be "perfect hosts."

"Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This quote pretty much sums up the play as a whole. Each event that occurs after Duncan's murder occurs with secrecy and deceit. MacBeth had to cover up murdering him by murdering others. Only a few find out what truly happened.

Macbeth wants to please his wife so badly, it is almost like an ambition. His ambition to kill the King and then continue with Macduff's family is so great that he is impatient because of the delays of Macduff not being there when he thought he might be. Ambition in Macbeth's sense is very impatient because he cannot wait to please his wife who keeps egging him on.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute

power corrupts absolutely. Great

men are almost always bad men."

I think the end of this quote is most relevant to the Scottish Play. Macbeth is a great man, but he is also a bad man. He is great because he has power and he knows it, but he is also bad because he abuses that power to kill off the King and Macduff's family, so the beginning of this quote is relevant as well.

"Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This quote is basically the theme of the whole play. Things are now what they seem at all in the play. Macbeth had to deceive others and make them believe that he wasn't the one who was the murderer. Those who have the intelligence to look deeper into the situation figured out that Macbeth was actually the murderer.
Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This is a major theme that is seen thoroughout the play. For example, Macbeth wasn't always seen as the person he truly was. People looked up to him , but he was the person involved in the murder of Duncan. He tried to cover it up so that he wouldn't be caught. He caused people to be killed becuase the wrong people were blamed for the actions of Macbeth.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there."

In the play, Macbeth gets himself into trouble when he decided to kill Duncan in order to become king. He was mad when he was kiling him and it led to more trouble. He thought that he couldn't be killed or even caught and at the end he was wrong. Toward the end his pride caused him to think that he was all that and couldn't be killed. Yet in reality he ended up the one dead and Macduff had his head as a trophy.

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”

Macbeth's pride got a head of himself. He was thinking that he was all that and that no one knew what he had done. If he could have stopped and looked in the mirror he could have seen that he wasn't the only one who knew what he did. He got too prideful when he thought that he was so good and could hide it, but many people knew. He was too into making himself look better, that he wasn't able to see that he would be the one dead at the end. He let pride get the best of him.
Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This quote applies to "The Scottish Play" in two ways: Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth seems to be this noble, loyal, do-good man, but he gets power hungry and becomes someone that nobody would expect. Those who pay a bit more attention, like Banquo and Macduff, both see what Macbeth was hiding deep down and Macduff eventually exposes Macbeth. Lady Macbeth also hides very well her true personality. Everyone thinks she is a dainty, polite woman who stands behind her husband and lets him "wear the pants". Contrary to what everyone believes, however, she is the one who controls the relationship and leads Macbeth in his quest for the kingship.

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."

This quote also applies to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. They are both prideful in their quest to make Macbeth king, and eventually they both die.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute

power corrupts absolutely. Great

men are almost always bad men."

This quote applies to Macbeth because once he became king, it is said that he led the country to destruction. Once he came into power, he allowed it to control him and he became a bad leader.
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."

This quote can be related to Macbeth. When Macbeth began to go through the ranks be coming king, he was at first hesitant. When he got his first taste of power though, he became greedy for power. He became so enthralled with power that he murdered for it. Eventually he became king. Macbeth became a powerful man, but he did it through bad actions.

"Temper gets you in trouble. Pride keeps you there." Macduff obviously knew this quote when he found out that his family was killed. Macduff's friend counseled him to be angry. Macduff knew better though and chose other emotions. If Macduff would have held on to that anger he could have gotten in trouble and stayed there.

"Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power." Macbeth is a perfect example of this quote. Macbeth believed so much in what he interpreted as the witches professions that he believed he was invincible just as many people who have absolute power may do.
Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden." This Quote goes torwards Lady Macbeth because she is a woman and wasnt expected of planning out a murder, after the murder of the king whe tried to play off that she didnt know what was going on and the people wouldt tell her becouse she was a woman and they thought she wouldnt be able to take it even thought she planned it.

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute

This quote reminds me of our government system. The power that comes with handling our government is great and in many cases, some people take that power to far. One example that comes to mind is Clinton. Even though he went against many moral issues, he got away with alot of different things which has corrupted the governmental system since.

"Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This quote brings to mind friendships. When you first meet someone, you are going to have a first opinion of them no matter what. If you are smart enough not to "judge a book by it's cover", you may find what is hidden beneath which may turn out to be a good thing or bad. One will never know unless they are intelligent enough to realize that first impressions aren't everything.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

This quote reminds me of basketball, or any sport. When I get a temper on the court, I tend to get a lot of fouls and I end up having to sit out for some of the game. If I was prideful that I got those fouls, my coach would probably be able to sense that and would keep me out of the game. If I didn't take pride in what I did, I would most likely be able to play for the remainder of the game, just very carefully.
A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”

I absolutely agree with this quote. It reminds me of a few people that I know- the people who are never wrong and think themselves to be the best thing to happen in our world. These people look down on others, because they think they are superior. By doing that, they do not allow themselves to see what else there is in the world- they do not see the other people that could possibly help them grow as individuals.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

This quote, like Noelle, also reminds me of sports. A certain #00 comes to mind, actually. At more than one of our games against this particular team, #00 has gotten a temper- either because of foul trouble, because she doesn't agree with a call the ref made, or just because she can. Just yesterday afternoon, she got called for a block when a teammate of ours was driving to the basket. She threw an absolute fit and started arguing with the ref- if her coach had not yelled at her to calm down, she could have very easily had gotten a technical and would have had to sit for a portion of the game. This quote reminds me of her because her temper has gotten her into trouble, and her pride always keeps her there because she argues relentlessly.

"Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”

This quote reminds me of the college search and application process. Starting as early as freshman year, students begin setting goals for themselves on where they want to go to school and how they're going to get there. This ambition drives them to want to succeed and to work hard, but it is the persistence and the perseverance that gets them to their eventual destination.
Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

This quote reminds me of first impressions. When you meet someone for the first time you tend to judge them. Yet you can never be too sure about someone when you put judgments upon first impressions. You cannot judge a person by their first impressions, because first impressions aren’t everything.

A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”

This reminds me of the snobby people you hear about who thinks everyone is inferior to you. They think that because they can drive fancy cars, or have expensive clothes, that they are better. This makes me think about when people try to put you down because they think it brings them down. Also, when I think of this, I believe that you shouldn’t let snobby people bring you down. Don’t let people get to you in this way. Bring yourself up when you don’t have to worry about these types of people.

Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

Like Hannah and Noelle, basketball is the first thing that comes to mind. When you know you screwed up or someone blocks you perfect shot, you let anger get the best of you. You begin to foul and that’s never good because you get into foul trouble and your coach gets mad. I know that in my own experiences, when I don’t do well, I begin to foul. Yet, when I know I am doing well, I am more self conscious about playing smart. I know that if I do well, you get more time and you play better. Therefore temper equals stupid fouls, and pride equals playing smart.
Power does not corrupt man; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power" when I read this quote the first thought that came into mind is Dictatorship, it is true that when man is given power, power to where there is no limit, man has the tendency to currupt it for example Hitler, Suddam, and Cuba all are examples of man currupting power. this also happens in all other governments.

"Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."THe first thought that comes to my mind from this quote is people. I have known many people to where the first two months and/or years of knowing them, they are cool and what i expect out of friendship, but as time goes on they turn into someone different, leaving you for another friend and/or change in ways that they are not cool to hang around.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there" lol this Quote reminds of getting a bad grade, most of the tiem when I get a bad grade on a test that I have studied Hard for I would get mad and say a naughty word. this use to get me into trouble alot. over the years I have developed a system of pride that has helped me overcome this problem a little.

This quote, especially the end, is proven today. People in history that have caused the world grief, have gotten more of a spotlight than people who have caused to world good. I see more books and movies made about Hitler than Ghandi. Hitler did have absolute power. Ghandi did not. Did this factor determin who got the bigger spotlight? It is possible even though these ideas are not ideal.

"Temper gets you in trouble. Pride keeps you there."

This statement is true. Thomas Jefferson even talked about the first part. He advised that if a person should start to get angry, they should count to ten before responding so that their tongue would not get them in trouble. A person cannot get in trouble unless they respond in an ill manner prompted by a temper. Benjamin Franklin talks about pride and how a person cannot learn from their mistakes unless they reject pride. A person will keep making the same mistake therefire staing in trouble unless they resist their pride and have an epiphany.

"Absolute faith corrupts as absolutely as absolute power"

This is shown again in history and modern times. Hitler had absolute power and was so focused on his objective that he was willing to commit suicide. A suicide bomber today has such absolute faith that he/she is willing to commit suicide. This shows that both faith and power can corrput a person enought to take their own life.
Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many; the intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden."

Does not the ice glittering on the surface of a pond, while beautiful, conceal the reality of the threat of death in the water below? One thing I have learned so far in life is to never accept things at face value. When you first encounter something or someone new, always take a second look. When you have considered the subject a second time, then take a third look. There is always a facade, always a mask. Sometimes, however, it is not possible to see what is behind the mask. It does not matter how intelligent one is, or how well versed in the art of intrigue. Sometimes the face behind the mask can only be revealed by the passage of time. Be cautious, though. One thing I have also learned is that sometimes the facade is preferable to the face beneath it.

“Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

Many times I have said something that I regret, but pride keeps me from taking my words back. I make a mistake, but pride keeps me from apologizing. When it comes to internal debate, pride makes some of the strongest arguments. My temper is almost non-existent, but when it is stirred it is pride that keeps me angry. To waver and forgive could be seen as being weak. My pride will not allow for weakness. And so I refuse to bend and wait for the day when I will finally break.

“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

This quote caused some amusement for me because of the thought it brought to mind. My interpretation of this quote is that the people who walk with their nose stuck in the air tend to trip and fall flat on their face. You can’t have your nose stuck in the air and watch where you are walking at the same time. Pride makes you blind; it makes you vulnerable. Destruction is inevitable.
A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”

I like the truth in this quote. Proud men never want to think anything is better than them so they look down up others and never look to see what is better than them. This could be disasterous. Their pride allows them to see only what they want to see, which is not good. It reminds me of a semi famous person who lets their fame go to their head.

"Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”

I really like this quote. It is important to have ambition to succeed in whatever it is you want to do. However, if you don't have persistance you will never succeed in what you want to do. I would have never thought to put ambition and persistance together like that but it works.

"Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there.”

This reminds me of when your a little kid and you get in trouble and then get mad at your parents. The child's temper is what got them in trouble in the first place. The child's pride is what kept them there because they didnt want to apologize for what they did. The child would rather stay in trouble then say they were wrong.
Temper gets you in trouble.
This reminds of me of anything you do thats competitive.Like Erin and Hannah said, sports. I think when someone gets angry their mind is not focused on the goal. Then when someone gets cocky they cant focus on the true meaning of winning.

"A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you.”

This quote reminds me of stuck-up people in high school. The typical bully might be the head cheerleader or the captain of the football team. They usually pick on those who have less popularity and cannot defend themselves. The pride in their actions leads to hurting someone else to make himself feel good. These "bullies" as I would call them aren't able to see what they could be doing good for others in the place of being mean.

"Power does not corrupt man; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power"

I like the truth in this quote and how I can look at our leaders today and apply it to them. I, like most americans would come to the conclusion that most politians are only telling the people what the people want to hear.I can see where a man can take advantage of his role in politics and use that power for selfish reasons. I would consider that man a fool!
Hannah, you're discussion of #00 just made my day.
